What is wrong with my transmission?

My automobile shakes violently when I go from intend to tract or go into any another sort or letter. Also when in intend my automobile won't agitate out of 2nd gear. So the RPMs needle go into the red and the car gets hot. The pace meter isn't employed also, so I don't know how fast I'm going. Its a 2001 P.T. Cruiser 175,000 miles on it.
